UTS:INSEARCH is undergoing a number of important changes to improve their student's academic experience and to comply with recent changes from the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.

The number of units in the above mentioned diplomas are reduced.
Standard (3 semester) and Accelerated (2 semester) modes have been reduced from nine to eight subjects. Extended (4 semester) mode has been reduced from 12 to 11 subjects.

Why have these improvements been made?

In consultation with UTS, UTS:INSEARCH has revised the course content and as a result students will now undertake fewer subjects and still receive the same 48 credit points towards their UTS degree.

How will this benefit students?

This study load is equivalent to first year of the UTS degree and allows for more study time.
The improvements also allow for a better sequencing and flow of information. Restructuring the subject sequence will help to improve the outcomes of subjects with pre-requisites, and also allow time for students to build up their study and technical skills before undertaking more content heavy and technical subjects.

Secondly, they want to ensure their students are successful in their studies and achieve the best possible outcomes. Therefore, they have revised the required knowledge for students studying the Diploma of Engineering.

What is the required knowledge for onshore international and domestic students?

International onshore students who have completed their secondary education in Australia and domestic HSC students need to have completed one of the following Mathematics subjects PLUS Physics and/or Chemistry in the HSC to be eligible for the STANDARD or ACCELERATED programs:
• Mathematics - Band 5 or above
• Mathematics Extension 1
• Mathematics Extension 2

International onshore students who have completed their secondary education in Australia and domestic HSC students who have studied either Mathematics General or Mathematics below Band 5 in the HSC are only eligible for the EXTENDED Diploma of Engineering.

What is the required knowledge for offshore international students?

Offshore international students will need to have studied Mathematics PLUS Physics and/or Chemistry intheir final year of secondary education to be eligible for the STANDARD or ACCELERATED Diploma ofEngineering.
International students who have not studied Mathematics AND Physics or Chemistry in the final two years oftheir secondary education will only be accepted into the EXTENDED Diploma of Engineering.

When does this take affect?

The required knowledge applies to all new Diploma of Engineering applications from 27 June 2016 and tostudents who are yet to accept their offers.

What are the changes to the Overseas Student Health Cover?

There are two main changes to the Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).

Firstly, the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) advised that from 1 July 2016 students will require OSHC cover dates and OSHC membership number at the time of student visa application. The tick box on the CoE to confirm that UTS:INSEARCH has provided OSHC will soon be removed.

Secondly, UTS:INSEARCH has made the decision that all students will be required to hold OSHC one month prior to Orientation. The reasons for this are when applying for a visa, it is difficult for a student to know exactly when they will arrive in Australia; plus this will allow students to arrive up to one month before Orientation, ensuring they do not miss this important event and have time to settle into their new environment.

海外学生健康保险（OSHC）的两个主要变化。

What does this mean if my student asked UTS:INSEARCH to arrange OSHC for them?

If your student already has a student visa or they have already lodged their student visa application there willbe no impact.
If your student has already accepted their offer and they have received their UTS:INSEARCH CoE it isimportant that they lodge their student visa before 1 July 2016.
If your student has requested UTS:INSEARCH to arrange OSHC on their behalf, they already hold an offer andwish to accept the offer, it is important that the student is given a new Offer Letter with an additional month’sOSHC.
