NSI International Students win CISA Scholarship

Council of International Students Australia (CISA) is the national peak student representative body independently run by international students for international students. Every year CISA hosts a conference and this year the 2016 CISA National Conference will be held in Darwin, Northern Territory from 5 - 8 July.

Out of the total 13 scholarships offered to international students in Australia, Elizabeth Nurieta from Indonesia, Jose Manuel Aguilar from Guatemala and Jakkrit Thongyad from Thailand are three NSI International Students who successfully secured an Equity Scholarship, sponsored by StudyNSW to attend the CISA conference. The scholarship covers the flight, accommodation and conference ticket cost. The students are thrilled to be going to Darwin for this conference. It was a lot of work getting nominations together but a great result! Congratulations to Elizabeth, Jose and Jakkrit on their success of winning an Equity Scholarship.

Study English in Sydney, and have Fun in the Sun

Fun in the Sun is a free program offered to all TELC students to encourage them to use their English in fun, social settings. TELC teacher, Steve Leavett- Brown is the organiser of this program and he is assisted by other teachers. TELC students study very hard and some also work in part time jobs. Fun in the Sun was created to provide them with a social outlet to their studies and to foster friendships between students of different backgrounds and with different experiences.

Fun in the Sun operates all through the year, and activities include soccer, badminton, table tennis, board games, dancing and informal conversation. Sometimes students share aspects of their own culture with the group and bring food, Arabic coffee or board games to play. Both male and female students participate in the program and find it a relaxed and informal way to spend time after class with teachers and fellow classmates.

The TAFE English Language Centre (TELC) is part of the Northern Sydney Institute, TAFE NSW which is owned and operated by the NSW state government.

The TAFE English Language Centre (TELC) at Meadowbank Campus in Sydney, is located in one of the most multicultural suburbs of Sydney. TELC offers English Language Program, Certificate III in Advanced English for Further Study (AEFS) and Certificate IV in English for Academic Purposes (EAP). In partnership with Le Cordon Bleu Sydney, TELC also offers English for Hospitality courses.
